A while back Mena Massoud stole our hearts when he sent his
Egyptian fans a message speaking in broken Arabic, fans thought he was adorable
and appreciating the fact he’s proud of his Middle Eastern roots.
Then again, while promoting when he gushed about his
upbringing in an Egyptian household and being exposed to artists like Amr Diab,
Adel Emam and Mustafa Amar instead of MC Hammer and foreign artists.
Pop Sugar
But now the Canadian/Egyptian actor is under fire after an old video of him resurfaced, where the actor referred to Levantine cuisine as an Israeli food. The video was posted to his Evolving Vegan’s IGTV in 2018, which resulted in some backlash among the Arabic community.
If that wasn’t enough things took a turn for the worst when
he sat down for an interview with the Israeli website YNET, an online outlet
for the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth while promoting his movie.
“I visited Israel when I was in Jordan. I crossed the
borders just for a few hours. It was such a process… because am Egyptian and
born in Egypt, they had to do their research,” the actor, who always expressed
pride in his Egyptian origins said in his interview.
“It was lovely we only spent a couple of hours there, I
definitely want to go back and visit Jerusalem and walk the path of Christ,” he
added.
People took to social media to express their disappointment; fans who previously praised him were very frustrated
I’m so disappointed in #MenaMassoud and the fact that I’ll have to “boycott” this film even though I’ve been waiting for it forever
@MenaMassoud hey! I didn’t appreciate the vegan/Israeli cuisine vid—Israel is a settler-colonial state, and when someone like you (especially of our descent) accepts their cultural appropriation, it legitimizes their state. Please reach out if you need some resources!
Claiming to come from “deep cultural roots” and being immersed in “Egyptian culture” and simultaneously claiming you don’t have a stance on Israel does not add up #MenaMassoud
Massoud insisted he was born in Egypt but raised in Canada,
so he really doesn’t understand the politics of claiming Middle Eastern food as
Israeli.
Hey dude. Grew up in Toronto going to Isreali restaurants that served Middle Eastern food. Don’t really understand the politics of it, I was honestly shocked to see the response. Not getting paid for EV. Actually pouring my own money into it. All love man
Do you agree with his point of view and don’t think he
doesn’t deserve all the hate he’s getting?

In efforts to become environmentally conscious, Red Sea Governor Ahmed Abdullah announced the ban of single-use plastic starting June 2019. According to Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association (HEPCA), it’s one of the main causes of death for thousands of creatures around the world.
The ban includes all single-use plastics like cutlery and straws, due to their damage to marine life. Starting from June it will be implemented in all stores, coffee shops, restaurants, and cruise ships.
In other good news for the environment, Egypt to introduce Eco-friendly toilets in Cairo, as part of the preparation for the African Cup of Nations
This decision comes as a part of a movement to conserve water and limit its use.
Standard toilets usually use up to 22 liters of water per flush, but these Eco-friendly toilets will consume three to six liters only.
It will contain three separate stalls for men, women, and people with disabilities.
According to Cairo’s Governor Ali Abdel Aal, at least 30 Eco-friendly toilet units will be installed staring also June 2019 across different parts of the city.
As water becomes more and more limited the decision to reduce water waste and educate the citizens about its repercussions seems like a practical move.
While others anticipated the holy month to fast, enjoy the festive atmosphere during it and cleanse their souls, others saw a chance to release their ugly sexist side.
Someone started an offensive campaign with the #ostor_bentak, suggesting that women can be extremely distracting to them and can potentially ruin their fast by their choice of wardrobe.
Not only is this campaign sexist and offensive, but it also suggests that women have no control whatsoever in their lives, not even when it comes to their style of dressing. Women aren’t property to be controlled; they’re capable of making choices, but the campaign suggests otherwise. Providing full authority to the patriarchy giving the sense that we’re still living in the past, even after all the efforts women’s rights organizations are making.
Some supported the movement mostly men, saying that women are tempting them in the holy month.
“Please god, we want to fast god bless you”
“Let people fast”
“Let us fast in peace”
Someone took the opportunity to remind us of another sexist campaign. Wondering if people will agree with this movement as they did the other rude campaign
Supporting the campaign with all the hashtags
“Another used the movement to sexualize kids, especially girls suggesting they should be dressed conservatively”
But all hope wasn’t lost because some stood against this campaign, attacking these regressive mentalities.
“Back to the same old point where men can do no wrong and all blame falls on women’s shoulders”
“Some wondered about the mysterious link between women clothing and men practicing fasting”
“Sister, dress according to your father’s wishes or per their sick mentalities”
“To whoever started this campaign, it’s mainly offensive to you, you’re a captive to your instincts, and it makes you look like an animal”
Wisely explaining the situation
While it’s assuring that some stood against this stick movement, it still paints a terrifying picture of the conditions women are facing daily on the streets.
From verbal and psychical harassment to unprovoked violence and now the accusations that by just existing they can cause distraction and a temptation to men.
Horror is the genre that used to scare us sleepless when we were young and then we grew up we started to enjoy it more.
However, after years of watching horror movies, you become accustomed to it, anticipating every jump scare realizing when the music tones down that the (killer – Demon – Ghost or psychopath) is going to attack right that moment.
But it all went downhill from there with the exception of the Conjuring part 2, as they produced sequels and prequels that made absolutely zero sense.
The movie promised a terrifying experience for fans that were waiting for an origin story for Valak aka the nun, needless to say, that it didn’t deliver.
The plot-line revolves around the mystery of a nun taking her own life in a monastery, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate trying to solve that secret confronted by an unholy and demonic presence.
With every cliché in the book, every predictable jump scares the movie was a complete snooze fest.
One frustrated IMDB user wrote:
Was there a plot? Nun. Were there any scares? Nun. Any good acting? Nun. Any reason to go see this movie? Nun.
Another user wrote:
No, just no! This was the first horror in years in which I wanted it just to end already. It is boring, the story is childish, no tension whatsoever. Beside nice shots outside and good scenery, this is zero. Horrible acting, predictable jump scares and zombie nuns. Don’t waste your time.
If you’re easily frightened, go see this movie and you might have a couple of scares and a good time but make sure to read that review and watch at your own risk.
When the news of Bradley Cooper’s directional debut dropped, I have to admit I wasn’t that excited. Maybe because I felt it’s going to be the same story with nothing new to add.
Then scrolling down my Instagram feed I hear a part of the “Look what I found” track and there was something about it. So I decided to listen to the rest of the songs like “Shallow” “Alibi” and got genuinely intrigued.
After watching the film, I was happy to be proven wrong about my initial thoughts on the movie.
Bradley Cooper surprises with his amazing vocals and guitar work and as someone who’s always a fan of Lady Gaga, it was exciting to see her portrayal, vulnerability, and sheer talent of her character Ally.
Aside from being a talented actor Cooper proved himself as a great director in his debut, the angles of the camera and the lighting were extremely aesthetic.
Although the story of the film has been around for decades and was remade in Hollywood several times, even twice in Bollywood there was a nuance to cooper’s take on it.
Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga had great chemistry on screen and considering this is her first serious acting role. She sure did a brilliant job but she particularly shined when she was performing.
Also, the exceptional casting choices for the supporting characters like “Bobby” played by Sam Elliot for instance, and “Ally’s” family and friends really stood out for me.
During the two hours of the feature, you’ll find yourself crying, hoping, laughing as there were some moments of the movie that actually cracked me up so did the rest of the moviegoers.
Overall, this was an excellent cinematic experience filled with great soundtracks and sizzling chemistry and it totally deserves all the hype that has been surrounding it.
Avengers:
Endgame premiered on April 24th, like most MCU fans we were filled with
anticipation and excitement.
But also
there’s a little bit of sadness because this means an end of an era. Apparently,
this is the last movies that will have the original six Avengers together.
As pointed
out by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, this film is focused on the
main six characters, similar to the first Avengers movie.
Not to mention the fear of not knowing what the future holds, will there be new
movies? According to Kevin Feige, there will be no new announcement
until this year’s release slate is over.
Nonetheless,
there were rumors circulating and some confirmations about upcoming sequels.
Here’s what
to expect from phase 4 after the release of Avengers: End Game.
Spider-Man: Far From Home
The movie already has a release date July 5th, with the
addition of Jake Gyllenhaal to the main cast.
The movie is directed by Jon Watts and will be set after the events of
Avengers: Endgame.
Black Panther 2
The initial movie was
both critically acclaimed and a smashing success at the box office.
So we weren’t surprised when rumors started going around about a sequel.
Doctor Strange 2
There will be a
sequel as confirmed by Feige while promoting Ant-man and the Wasp.
Also, Benedict Cumberbatch distinctly expressed how excited he was to
reprise his character.
Guardians of the Galaxy VOL. 3
Kevin Feige confirmed a third Guardians of The Galaxy
movie, but we’re still waiting for a release date.
James Gunn will direct this one after being fired over his insensitive
tweets about sexual abuse and children.
Black Widow
Marvel remains silent
about this one, but according to the rumors, production will start on Scarlet
Johansson solo movie this year.
Venom 2
though not a
part of the MCU the Tom Hardy starrer is confirmed, yet there’s no official
